Six

Sweet Care, Happy birthday!! You're the big SIX today. At six years old you read everything you can get your hands on (books, cereal boxes, DVD cases) I know you won't always read out loud so I make sure to pause and listen to your sweet voice. You love the colors turquoise and purple. You are starting to talk more about your friends from Wednesday night church and co op, often times relaying entire conversations to us. You are always up for adventure! Things like riding the new zip line near Papa and Yaya's house or presenting if front of a co op class that you have never met before. Brave girl! You are a great example of taking risks for your little sisters (and mom!) You love being in the water and swimming, getting back scratches from Gigi and stuffed animals/little trinkets. You don't love brushing knots out of your hair and not getting your own way, but your dad and I have seen a softening of your heart this past year that is the result of many years (like, ...

Soccer Season

Image
We had a great fall soccer season! Sure, the logistics weren't ideal.. -We hoped to have a local team to practice with, but there weren't enough girls signed up so we joined a team 20 minutes away -Practice was on Friday at 6, when Kent had football, so I took all the girls to practice YAY But! It was fun to see Caris much more involved in the games this time around. She realized that if she kicked the ball hard and out ran other girls, she could score. And scoring is fun. winkyface But the best part? A TROPHY WITH YOUR NAME ON IT!! Eeeek! Go Care!  The other highlight of the season was watching my dad watch small children "play" soccer. It tormented him. My mom on the other hand yelled all sorts of encouraging comments for both teams. BIG thanks to all the fam that came to early Saturday games! It made our soccer star feel very loved  We very much felt like the Saturday Soccer Suburban Family

Dear Caris, The day finally came! March 11th, the long awaited birthday. We celebrated with a cat themed birthday party(complete with watching the Aristocats that night), strawberry cake and having some of mommy's side of the family over for lunch after church. At five you are beautiful, smart and sensitive. You love to talk! You also love to follow (and enforce) the rules. You enjoy swinging and playing outside, sometimes in your own little world. New interests include throwing the frisbee with us and playing dodge ball with daddy. That game makes you laugh and laugh. We have dabbled in having you read aloud and you're catching on quickly. The book we read the most is Go Dog Go. You also explain numbers/addition/problem solving to us and I know you'll pass me in math in a few short years. You are a wonderful big sister and right now, having you hold baby Audrey in the tub while I wash her has been so helpful! We love to see you learn and grow through your Wednesday...

Big & Little

-Talks about the number one hundred and thinks that it is A LOT. "I have 100 kids! " "In the summer you'll have to give me 100 cups of water!" - Loves soccer practice but not soccer games -Thinks a boy on her team is really funny and giggles at him -Is beginning to draw  detailed things like hearts, pigs, elephants (Inspired by Piggie and Gerald ) and mice (Inspired by Cinderella)  -When her sister is upset, she will sometimes say, "Liza. Liza. Can we talk about this?" -Most mornings will only let Kent get her out of the crib "Need daddy" - Likes to throw things, climb and tumble. She'll jump to you even when you're not ready -Is good at cleaning up toys -Wants to complete tasks by herself. "I do it, I do it. I.DO.IT!" -Has dropped from a two hour nap to a one hour nap

Our Soccer Star

Image
The best part about Caris' first soccer game was that Aunt Anna was there to see it! Kent did a great job double folding her socks, tying up her shirt (and she's wearing two pairs of shorts to help bulk up the bottom)  The game was 5% cute and 95% painful to watch. Most of our team walked around the entire time. Caris started running in the last two minutes and even managed to score a goal! Also, for the next game we're bringing a beach umbrella, sunglasses, sunscreen, and I don't know...abnormally large ice cubes. I had to take a Is this my real life? Do I have a really have kid playing her in her first organized sporting event? Cue all the feelings  picture  We celebrated with dessert afterwards. GO CAYGIS! (She yells as she shops for a Soccer Mom car magnet online)

Dear Caris, You have looked forward to this day for such a long time and it's finally here...today you are four! In the past year you've grown very much in your independence. You enjoy swinging by yourself (pumping!) at the park, picking out what clothes to wear, getting water from the fridge and you have recently started to make your own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. You are always up for a job/project/adventure. You love to help around the house and will often help your sister- like taking off her shoes at the Chick fil A playground and putting them in the shoe cubby.  You imagination continues to be wild and fun.  You love to chew gum, climb really high at the playground and make up your own songs to sing. Happy birthday, Caris! We love you. Mommy

She Says

When I grow up I'm going to have a pet fish. And I'm going to name it Wally. (Walking out of her room) Sorry Mom, I had to talk to Alayna. She's my cousin. I know ALL about babies because I'm older.  Don't forget my name is Princess. Don't forget my name is Macey. Let's pretend I'm older and I'm texting people on my phone. And you're driving us somewhere and Liza is a baby. Her name is Baby Zoe.

Disney Princesses  around here {all day every day} At any given minute, we hear a song or a story line being sung or acted out. Kent is always Prince Eric, Prince Philip or Prince Charming. Liza is assigned "Gus gus" or "Flounder" and I am... the sea witch, the mean queen from Snow White or Maleficent's Curse. Not Maleficent. Her curse . What? NOT COOL. This is not an announcement, but Caris has claimed to have "brudders" for a few weeks now. Sometimes just one, but other times she has 5 brudders and 5 sisters. They live "far far away" and "dey are older dan me" She tells us her name is "Shell shell". There's a TV show, Super Why, and at the beginning of every episode they tell the viewers to "Now say your name!" From the other room I heard a serious "Shell shell" response. She is also 6 years old and has a cat that lives in South Carolina She calls me Miss Becky 80% of the time. I answer t...

3 {How We Celebrated}

Image
Luckily for Caris, her 3rd birthday fell during our week of vacation with Kent's parents. Papa treated us  her to breakfast at a cute, delish  restaurant  (where she exclaimed, "HEY I know ROOFY!!") and then we spent most of the day at the beach.  Seeing the decorations upon waking up was overwhelming for her. As in.. she turned and faced the wall for a solid 2 minutes and wouldn't turn around.  I decided to tone down the expectations after that.  Only the start of her presents. It was a Frozen/Princess filled day, but most popular was the flash light from Aunt Anna.  Y'all. The cake was nasty. Not in a hyper-critical "No YOU'RE prettier" kind of way. Something went terribly wrong and I was both bummed out (gimme some good cake any day) and mortified because my father in law was ingesting it. BUMMER all around.  Happy Birthday Little Shuggie!!

Three

Image
To my sweet Caris on her third birthday, Three! I think every parent says it and it's true for me- I can't believe we're already celebrating your third birthday. It was impossible to know 3 years ago that hiding inside that 4 pound 10 ounce preemie baby was a smart, energetic, passionate little soul. You are 100 miles a minute everyday. You make us laugh by saying things like,  "I eat my boogie like Andy at church" and  (while driving) "Slow down! The mailman might get you!" You make us roll our eyes, sigh heavily and want to lay flat on our backs and stare at the ceiling when your stubborn side comes through along with your concrete thinking and wild feelings that are sometimes hard for you to put into words. I see so much of me in you. Sometimes your Daddy points this out to us and sometimes he and I look at each other and it's said with a knowing glance.  You love to sing, dance, read, keep busy with projects, cut paper and ta...
