1. National Donut Day OHHAPPYDAY! We partook in this day of celebration, but sadly my phone is chunk full of pictures and can hold no more, so no documentation. Liza: Chocolate iced with sprinkles Caris: Birthday Cake Me: Chocolate iced with kreme filling. (Free) 2. New Purse After donuts we took our carb-filled selves over to a local thrift store to make a donation and  walk around the sore (yep, totally contradictory) We wandered around with self-control until the end when I spotted a simple black tote purse. I've accepted myself as a minimalist when it comes to purses. This excites me because it will narrow down my choices, but it also grieves me because it proves that I'm turning into my father, who would wear a white shirt and tan khaki pants everyday if my mom would let him. I've been on the hunt for the perfect black purse for like, ever. Found it! Worth the wait. ($3) 3. Purple + Polkie Dots This morning as I crossed the dangerous Walmart Traverse (You kn...

ya know, the post that's halfway finished on Friday morning and gets posted on Sunday 1. Kent's back from his three day Redneck Church Planting Retreat in TN.  Tough life. winkyface This morning he took the big girls to the park and while Audrey naps, I'm walking around in circles in a quiet house. PRAISE HANDS. 2. Kent is convinced that I don't like listening to music. That's a pretty general statement and I don't like to make a quick correction:: I like listening to music in the right setting.  Right time: When I'm alone and it's quiet. Ben Rector and I are jamming right now Wrong time: When our entire family is getting ready for the day and he & Deitrick decide to remind us that HE IS ABLE ! Don't give up on God, LEMME IRON THAT SHIRT REAL QUICK 'cause he won't give up on you GIRLS, BRUSH YOUR TEETH AND HAIR He's able.  3. AuddyAnna is 8 months (WHAT??) and it seems like, to the older girls, that she's r...

True love is agreeing to walk  waddle around the neighborhood with your pregnant wife in the middle of August  Selfies on your phone are free game! Everyone say Hiiiii Shellyyyyy !

I've been hit by the plague since Wednesday. I'm a silent sufferer until a couple days in and then I let me true dramatic self show by sending sick-face selfie texts to my mom and husband and anyone who might write back. I won't go into details (yuck) but I truly don't think I've been this sick since elementary school!   want me to send you a sick face selfie?  Here are 5 perks from my time as a convalescent too dramatic?  1. I've enjoyed seeing Kent as a stay-at-home dad. He takes them to the Y for 2 hours and then takes them back out again in the afternoon. His words, "You gotta keep these kids busy!" While I've been bedridden, I listened to what my life r e a l l y sounds like. Does Liza REALLY say, "mommydaddymommydaddddy" over and over when she wants something? And Caris has these interesting well thought out ideas that I'm too distracted (see Liza above) to hear. I love hearing my life from a distance. 2. Television withou...

5 Things I learned in July  1. Visiting family back to back (within about 3 weeks) helped my oldest connect with her extended family. She didn't want to leave and now regularly asks to visit again. She reminds me that we're going again in the fall  (which she has like, no concept of) Can we go to Ed-ben-chure with Daddy and Liza and maybe Aunt Anna? And see Big Eddie and Aunt Anna can come?  2. Making meals is worth the effort. I've mentioned before that I go head long into meal prep for awhile and then find myself throwing a stack of saltine crackers and room temp water at my kids for dinner(jokes!) Visiting my Ma helped motivate me again and amen to leftovers for lunch. (My pants disagree) 3. The  care free willy-nilly days of summer in the life of a youth pastor is fine for about, half of the summer until it isn't fine anymore for the type A youth pastor's wife.  What's your plan today? Hey what's your week look like again? When's your day off t...

1. Kent officiated his first wedding (!!) last Saturday and brought home this plate o' chocolate for me. What can I say...he gets me. I returned the favor later in the week by sharing my chocolate mug cake recipe with him. He was hesitant to make it, but once I talked him into it, he was impressed* *this is hard to do 2. I found that we were all but out of Duke's Mayonnaise, but I did find these two imposters in my fridge. I snapped this picture, sent it to Kent and told him, "Quit bringing this crap into my house" (Followed by lots of "ha ha ha ha"s) DUKE'S FOR LIFE  3. During my recent visit with my parents, my Dad was all "This is what you want! If you're looking for high protein... other nutritional facts that he says while I zone out... " I decided, OK!Let's do it! during my last shopping trip. I had missed the crunch of cereal in the morning. Um. I'd rather eat cardboard. Or insulation. Or not eat at all and...

1. Today marks 33 years of marriage for this couple. I'm pretty sure they weren't wearing these outfits to celebrate today. They are complete opposites and they're currently stuck in a hut together in South Sudan. Only Jesus.   2. Tomorrow is this chick's 5? birthday. If we were hanging out we'd probably go shopping and spend our husband's money and then stuff our faces with tasty treats. RAIN CHECK, please!  This picture was supposed to be our "Let's look emotionally drained since we just drove from Philly" but someone couldn't help but to crack a smile. The nerve. 3. Tonight Kent grilled chicken for my  post-surgery dinner care package , bathed Little Punky Brewster AND did the dishes before heading out to his 8PM-1AM youth event. And for that, I stand and publicly salute him.  4. Sunday is Grandparent's Day so a Happy Grandparent's Day to Pops and.... (insert a Grandma name for my Mom. We're still working on i...

This was Caris' Bethany Hamilton  sleeping pose while on vacation Starting my day with these guys is a rare treat. They are happy and healthy.  Kent served me dessert last night (bonus husband points!) ...but it came in this mug (bonus husband points taken away)  A recent trip to the library. We colored, but it looked a lot like tasting the crayons, taking them all out of the bucket and putting them back in.  For the past few mortgage payments on our house, I've used up the last of the New Year's stamps (from a few years ago) and each time I hope we can really celebrate by SELLING OUR HOUSE.
