Thanksgiving 2013

Image
The Thanksgiving tasks were... Ben: Sausage stuffing, rolls, mashed potatoes and a last minute shopping trip to buy more salt. *Sign of a good Thanksgiving meal: we ran out of salt and almost ran out of butter.  Kent: Turkey, gravy  Anna: Pumpkin trifle, baked carrots, general dishwasher and babysitter  Kait: Pumpkin Spice Lattes, corn casserole, celery/carrot/dip appetizer, a pple crisp, butterscotch cookies, Kent and Caris made sure Anna made the trifle correctly.  Some Auntie Niece Lovin'  This was the smallest Thanksgiving crowd to date, but we had good laughs and good eats.  *Moment of silence to acknowledge the fact that there's a HIGHCHAIR at my Thanksgiving table. Double, triple thankful for that.   Nothing like a little turkey to knock you straight out  Chuck Parker's good beard genes live on...

Thanksgiving: Behind the Scenes

Image
Twas the night before Thanksgiving and we were sitting in polka dot PJ's writing down last minute recipes  Twas early morning on Thanksgiving Day and we were sipping on Homemade Pumpkin Spice Lattes  Twas mid morning on Thanksgiving Day and  we caught some of the Macey's Day Parade Twas mid afternoon on Thanksgiving Day and we were warming ourselves by the fire  on this abnormally chilly day... and trying to take artsy photos.

Dear Susu , you were a TOTAL CHAMP during our road trip. Sorry for making you sit in a dirty diaper for the last 45 minutes.Your Dad and I owe you big time. Dear old man in the thrift store , our conversation went like this...  Man: "How are you doing today pretty lady?" Me: "Good. How are you?" Man: "Not as good as you're looking" 10 points for the spin at the end, but sorry, I'm married.  Dear Kent, thanks for spending Saturday afternoon thrifting in our new city. What a perfect way to settle in.  Dear potential rental house, I love your french doors, hard floors, fancy kitchen, back yard and natural light. I hope things work out between us.  Dear Goodwill workers, yes, that is my husband pushing our daughter in her car seat on a rolling desk chair that you're trying to sell.  Dear Hotel, thanks for agreeing to hold my husband's clothes that he left in the closet.  Dear 4 Rivers Smokehouse , not only did you serve us...

A conversation with Wes, last Tuesday via texting  Me: Are you or Sara available tomorrow or Thursday morning? Looking for a babysitter just about an hr. No big deal, just manis with Anna. Wes: Maybe Thursday for me...what time? I have a test till 915. What is manis with Anna? Me: Pronounced MANeeze ;) Wes: What in the world is that? Me: Ask Sara *He gave us gift cards to the spa last Christmas. Little did he know that he'd be providing free babysitting too!  Thanks, Wes!

House Hunters

Hello from a dark hotel room where both of my roomies fell asleep at 8:30. It took 7 hours to get to the Sunshine State and I'm relieved to report that Little Miss was a road trip champ. We rented the tiniest car which I've nicknamed THE BLACK GNAT. My knees hit my chin when I sit in it. But, as always, it could be worse . It turns out that Kent loves rental cars and he pushed every button in that car within the first 5 minutes. It reminded me of this scene from Elf. Today... 1. We looked at 8 houses [to rent] 2. I pinched Caris' chin in her car seat buckle (SOBS) 3. We ate at Huey Magoos 4. Kent showed me around the church 5. We dragged Caris around for hours after her nap time (SOBS) [Tomorrow is a "Recollect Yourself" Down Day] Sunday... 1. I will summon any extrovert-ness energy that I have 2. I will attend a church brunch, church and possibly lunch with church people 3. I will smile as much as I did for Junior Prom pictures 4. I will ask...

I Know: Baby Suits

Image
I know that because you say "Mama mama mama" all of the time you secretly like me better than your Dad I know that when you grunt and your face turns red, you're working on a diaper surprise  I know that when when you babble, laugh and play I want 10 more just like you And when you try to flop out of the baby carrier, wake up at midnight and scream if I don't feed you quickly enough, I know that you might do ok as an only child I know that Grandma will have so much fun with you for a month in December  When your Dad turns the heat on at the end of October, a month earlier than usual, I know that you're his favorite When I look at you closely: your toes, your eyelashes and even your cute butt, I know that God made you perfectly in my belly. I know that every time the 11th comes you are one month closer to turning 1
