Wet Weekend

Image
Our weekend included a trip to the Splash Pad (free) and pool (seasonal pass)   Here is Miss C's protect the baby against skin cancer  fun-in-the-sun outfit  She doesn't like hats, but wore it for awhile without it strapped. And the shoes are still a bit big.  The Splash Pad was super fun now that she can walk  I see many pool days in our future   Please note the leg rolls (hers, not mine...) We've worked hard for those! Multiple fig newtons helped. Flaunt it, girl!

Friday's {Frugal} Find

What: Umbrella  Where: THE STREET Cost: Free N eeded?: According to Kent, he's been in desperate need of one for quite some time. I* was driving the family around one afternoon.  *I'm not sure why I was driving because I n-e-v-er drive us  Kent began to yell, "An umbrella! Turn around! Turn around!" Me: "Omygoshomygosh no way. There's probably a car coming. It's probably all bent up" Kent: "Turn the car around!" Then I thought, duh, he would totally do it for me. So I turned around, drove up next to the umbrella and Kent opened his door and scooped it up. This all took place in front of a fancy, gated community. NO SHAME.  Ok. A little shame. In the end I was beaming with pride at my Thrifting Apprentice. And he was happy with his find because, "I've been stuck in the rain like, 3 times without an umbrella!" Also filed under:  Proof that I'm turning into my mother...

All Things Food

First of all, HAPPY NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DAY. There aren't many things I wouldn't do for a fresh, hot-out-of-the-oven piece of heavenly goodness. Sadly, the following picture wasn't taken today (Easter) but I am thawing some dough as I type.  I'd like to thank my Mother Inlaw for showing me how to bake chocolate chip cookies. First, I gained their family recipe through marriage (Kent or the recipe- a toss up for the best thing that I gained almost five years ago)  Secondly, fresh off my honeymoon, I watched my MIL bake cookies for the first time- with detailed precision. It was something that I never saw from my own "Cook by smell" Mother. *Side note: My MIL would be saddened by these different sized cookies- especially the last row.  Kent goes on Food Show marathons. Here I am benefiting from his "Everything Fried" Show. This picture is fried Reeses. We also tried Snickers, Milky Way and cookie dough. Just typing that

Graduation

Image
3 CHEERS for Ben who graduated on Saturday with a degree from The University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish.  Felicitaciones! I spy a graduate  The following family members are ALL USC Alumni!   Wes came late to the ceremony without a cell phone (just like the good ol' days) and we almost didn't find him afterwards. Worst time to leave your phone at home. We snapped this photo before we found him. BROTHERS NEIGHBORS FRIENDS CONGRATULATIONS BENJI. Job well done.

Hospitality

Image
I think opening your home (or hospitality , if you wanna get fancy) is important. It's an easy, cheap, relaxed (in theory) way to love people.  At Bible Study one week, I told a girl ("girl" as in, mid 30's) that we were having two new families from the church over for dinner that night. First she said, "And you're HERE?" and second she asked, "Do you feel like you have to have people over because you're the youth pastor's wife and everything?" To which I responded with a blank stare and a "Uhhh maybe, but not really. No, I don't think so." Something to chew on. I turn into a complete Loony Bird before I have people over. I plan, I clean, I sweat, I fuss at my husband, I hide all the toys an hour before people come so that Messy Miss can't demolish my house. I walk around in circles dramatically saying, "This is just like, NOT MY FORTE." We've had a handful of people over in the last 4 months. Yout
